What Is CPA? Cost Per Acquisition Explained

Cost per acquisition (CPA) is the total cost of acquiring one paying customer through a specific advertising channel or campaign. It's calculated by dividing total ad spend by the number of conversions (purchases, sign-ups, or whatever action you define as an acquisition). CPA is the north-star metric for performance marketers because it directly ties ad spend to business outcomes.
